Study For Frustrated Angels At The Deadly Arete
Description: A group of angels wait to climb a terribly steep stairway. One angel is angry and pounding the cloud. Another angel is exasperated (envious) that another angel is easily making the climb, but she has help from a magical string coming down. Cupid looks on with interest and amusement.

Artist Comment:
This is a study that I transferred and underpainted, but I decided the figures were too small and numerous. So the painting was abandoned, but it is still a nice work of art in its own right, with a lot of symbolism. The "Deadly" in the title does refer to the deadly sins, and "Arete" in the title means an outside corner in rock climbing (French: Arête), which is depicted here, and also a secondary Greek meaning of excellence or virtue (Greek: Aretē).
