Artist Comment: Once in a blue moon, I get an idea for a painting from watching a travel vlog on Youtube. In this case, I came across this image of a Himalayan monastery. I invented a tonalist scene in the foreground with the figures and swans. As usual, the drapery and fabric was a struggle, and the swans are minimally detailed. But I don't really want a lot of detail on the figures. The goal is the overall tones, mood, and composition more than representation. This photo was taken with the painting freshly wet, and is picking up a lot of glare from the studio lights.
