On The Left Bank With A Friend
Description: It is a gloomy day in Paris, looking west from under the bridge towards the Louvre in the distance. It has started to rain. Two girls stop to make a phone call. The viewer is walking with an intelligent, rich, and attractive French woman who has a Hungarian Vizsla on a leash. Two men in a nearby fishing boat are not looking at the girls, but rather at your companion. The frame is silver foil, handmade by the artist.

Artist Comment: I was inspired to paint this scene from an old photo of men fishing under this bridge, from perhaps the 1930s. I used Google street maps to find the modern day equivalent, and painted a dreamy amalgam of both photos from under the St. Michael bridge, looking west at Pont Neuf, with the Louvre on the banks beyond. The fishermen and the distant boat house are no longer there. This was an early attempt at Tonalism with green and white. I am very happy with this painting and am unlikely to ever sell it.
