Artist Comment: Here I was experimenting with an Ash Can school style. I was considering depicting the dregs of humanity as angels, doing drugs under the bridge, fucking behind dumpsters, etc. The dark environments are also nice for the gold halos to stand out. I was quite pleased with my rendering of the audience faces. I was sort of doing a master study here, but re-worked the composition quite a bit, so I don't consider it a true copy from the Bellows boxing original. In the end, I abandoned this style because it was so depressing and affected. It would be grunge painting, maybe. It's a nice painting, but the dark style is not working for me at this time. So the dark vs. light symbolism here is appropriate, along with the dick measuring contest in the foreground. The time traveling blonde is of course the artist. The lights above are meant to appear like alien spacecraft.
