Artist Comment: Here I was simply trying to paint a high-key composition with more brown-skinned figures, as opposed to a lower key composition emphasizing light skin and clothing. So here the skin tones are much more pronounced b contrast. Conscious of the fact that the skin tones would be the prominent eye magnets (more than normal), my figures look a bit pin-uppy. I did actually use Vargas and Fritz Willis pin-ups as an inspiration for the two central figures, but I added the books. Figures of equal size are not ideal compositionally. This is a factor in why I draw older with younger women. Here I had the idea to draw two figures foreshortened, intendin to make their shapes look smaller, instead of making smaller, younger women. It didn't work. They still just look plain younger. I also hoped to tie the skin tones to the venetian tile roofs in the background. That is still a work in progress at the time of this writing.
